Chilled Closed Loop Systems

Closed loop chilled water systems are generally found in large industrial or commercial applications. It is far more efficient to transfer chilled water for cooling than to use forced cool air. These systems generally work in conjunction with a chiller, heat pump or absorber and are subject to many types of efficiency-robbing problems.

The main water concern with chilled closed loop systems is the damage caused by corrosion. Because of the lower temperatures these units normally operate, dissolved oxygen is not removed causing excessive metal loss, fouling, and efficiency loss. The presence of this dissolved oxygen will accelerate the corrosion process that can eat away at expensive components and piping, rendering valuable investment capital and equipment worthless.

Rhomar Water Management, Inc. has designed and developed a full line of products and chemistries to solve the problems associated with these systems. Special attention must be paid to selecting the proper treatment program due to the construction of the multiple components in these units. Systems that contain mostly mild steel require a certain chemistry to provide proper protection, while systems with high contents of copper or brass require another chemistry to protect these valuable investments.
